# The Titan

The Last Engine of the Vael. When its makers were gone it would not stop guarding their altars, and it still does not know they are gone: a war engine of obitite, the black metal of the dead, trimmed in Vael gold, its head sunk between towering pauldrons with one great lens, a cannon arm and a grinder arm. Five blocks tall, 300 health.

- **Where:** Raised metal altars with glowing pillars in the Vael Wastes, about one in every 256 by 256 blocks. A held compass points to the nearest altar
- **Health:** 300
- **Wakes:** When a player comes within 40 blocks of its altar; again five minutes after it falls
- **Fights:** Anyone within 32 blocks

## Its moves

| Move | What happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Laser | From range, 4 shards; one in four misses | Full tungsten armour stops it; a held compass sends half of them back |
| Punch | 2.5 shards up close | Strike and step away |
| Grinder charge | For four seconds of every fourteen it charges with the grinder, moving nearly twice as fast and grinding a shard a second | Keep your distance during the charge; strike as it ends |

Damage here is for Medium: Easy halves it, Hard adds half again.

## How to beat it

1. Wear a full set of tungsten armour: the laser does nothing at all to it. Tungsten comes from the Vael Wastes's ore and from Brass Wardens.
2. Without the full set, keep a compass in your hand or offhand: it turns half the lasers back into the Titan.
3. Fight at sword reach between charges. When it starts to grind, back away and circle; it is fast, but it has to turn.
4. Tamed Wrights fight beside you and fire their own lasers at it.

## The land round its altar

The Vael Wastes is a grey wasteland under a smoggy dusk that never lifts, so Vael Wrights roam it at every hour. Small green pools of **acid** hurt a shard a second while you stand in one (halved in a full set of tungsten), and Wrights and the Titan wade through them unharmed: never chase it into one. Pools of **pitch**, which you can drown in, fuel the thrumpack its core becomes. [The Vael Wastes](https://riventale.world/guides/biomes/) has the rest.

## What it leaves

- **6 to 10 obitite**: the top tier of tools and armour. A full set of obitite armour makes you immune to lava, and an obitite tool beside a Keeper's ore becomes an elemental tool.
- **The Titan's Heart, half the time**: the heart of a Thrumpack.

- **Thrumpack:** Six obitite round a Titan's Heart. Fuelled with pitch; hold jump in the air to fly (6 Obitite, 1 Titan's Heart)

Its altar stays dark for five minutes after it falls, then the Titan rises again. Torn Page X, found in the Vael Wastes's ruins and in the remains of fallen giants, tells why it still stands guard.
