# How to play Riventale

Open [riventale.world](https://riventale.world/), press **New Game**, choose a path (Easy, Medium or Hard) and your world is made in a few seconds. On a computer, click the game to start moving.

## First steps

A new world shows these steps in the corner of the screen until you have done them:

1. **Gather wood.** Hold left click on a tree trunk (on touch screens, press and hold).
2. **Make boards.** Press `E` and put a log in the crafting grid.
3. **Build a Maker's Bench.** Fill the 2×2 grid with boards.
4. **Craft a pickaxe.** Place the bench and right click it. Put 3 boards across the top and 2 hafts down the middle (hafts are 2 boards, one on top of the other).
5. **Mine some stone.** Dig down to the grey stone with your pickaxe.

After that, look for crystal towers on the horizon: they mark the elemental temples. Gear up before you visit.

## Touch controls (phones and tablets)

Turn your phone sideways: Riventale plays in landscape.

- **Move:** the joystick at the bottom left.
- **Look:** drag anywhere else on the screen.
- **Use or place:** tap. **Mine or attack:** press and hold.
- **Jump, Run, Sneak and camera view:** the buttons at the bottom right.
- **Inventory, drop and chat:** the small buttons at the top left; ☰ at the top right opens the menu.

## Tips

- **Saving:** your world saves in your browser. Use *Save & Quit* in the pause menu, and *Continue* on the title screen takes you back in.
- **Night is dangerous.** Build a shelter or carry a weapon before dark.
- **Critical hits:** hit a monster while falling from a jump.
- **Robots:** tungsten calms the wandering robots. A tamed squad follows your orders (`G`).
- **Pages:** torn pages from loot chests tell the story. The pause menu keeps every page you find.
- **Slow computer?** Lower the view distance in the pause menu.
