# The Friends update

*v0.3 · October 2026*

Friends can find you now. The songs stay where you heard them.

- **[Friends](#friends):** Share your friend code, see who is online and where, and join them in one tap.
- **[Private worlds and Open my world](#private-worlds-and-open-my-world):** An invite-only world on our server, or your own world opened to friends.
- **[The Songstone](#the-songstone):** A block that plays the songs you have heard, where you heard them, for everyone nearby.
- **[Keeper’s Marks and the shop](#keeper-s-marks-and-the-shop):** Marks earned from the Keepers, and looks to buy: they change only how you look.
- **[Finding your way](#finding-your-way):** The compass ribbon, the death beam, the Journal and danger hints.
- **[Touch controls](#touch-controls):** A D-pad or a floating joystick, sizes, and controls you can arrange.

## Friends

Sign in (email, Google or a passkey), open **Friends** and share your friend code, or the link and QR code that carry it. You see which friends are online and in which world, join them in one tap, and invite them to yours: an invite reaches a friend wherever they are in the game. Friends opens from the title menu, the pause menu and `F`.

## Private worlds and Open my world

- **Private world:** an invite-only world on our server. Share its code or link; up to 10 players. A private world nobody joins for 7 days closes, and its owner can download it for 90 days after that.
- **Open my world:** up to 8 friends join your single-player world from their own browsers while you play. Their characters are saved in your world. From the title menu (Play with friends > Open my world) or the pause menu (Open to friends).

## The Songstone

Every character gets one Songstone, once, in hotbar slot 9. Place it and right click it (tap on a phone) to play the songs you have heard, sorted by the place where each one plays: one song, all of them, or shuffled. Players nearby hear it too. A song joins your Songstone once you have heard it for a while in its place.

- **Songstone:** A gold ingot between two stone bricks on top, three stone bricks below (5 Stone Bricks, 1 Gold Ingot)

## Keeper’s Marks and the shop

Beat a Keeper and its mark is yours to wear: Keeper’s Marks and achievement trims are earned, never sold. The Wardrobe’s new **Looks** tab is the shop: sets, bundles, and the Supporter Pack with the Founder’s Cape. Looks change only how you look; there are no random items. Sign in to buy; a purchase can be refunded within 7 days ([refunds](https://riventale.world/refunds/)).

## Finding your way

- **The compass ribbon** along the top of the screen shows where you face, the place you last fell, and where a held compass points. Settings > Comfort > Compass turns it off.
- **The death beam:** a gold column rises where you fell and your things lie, with a skull riding it on the ribbon.
- **The Journal** (`J`, or the pause menu) keeps your achievements, the torn pages you have found, the story so far, and your numbers in each world: time played, deaths, blocks placed and broken, creatures beaten. Its What’s new tab keeps these notes.
- **Danger hints:** the edge of the screen shows the face of what hit you, on the side the hit came from. The death screen shows what killed you, with one tip. Low air and low health put a line under the crosshair with what to do.

## Touch controls

- **A D-pad or the joystick** (Settings > Controls > Move with). On the D-pad, slide between the arrows to turn, or press between two to walk diagonally.
- **A floating joystick:** it appears where your thumb lands on the left half of the screen. Push to run: the stick past its ring runs, and held there, running locks on. A dead zone sets how far the stick moves before you walk.
- **Size and opacity** of the movement control and the buttons.
- **Arrange controls:** in a world, pause, open Settings > Controls and drag the movement control, the buttons and the jump button where you want them. Portrait and landscape keep their own places.
- Phones held upright: the hotbar, the bag and the touch controls fit screens 360 to 430 pixels wide.

## Also new

- Accented letters in player names: Zoë stays Zoë, and look-alike names share one name.
- The night sky on Medium and High: the Keepers’ four constellations turning round one still star, a moon whose phase follows the days, shooting stars, and a faint aurora over snowy land.
- The title menu has a Play with friends button; Play Online is one tap to the public world.
- Signed in, your single-player worlds are copied to your account, so they can come back on another device.
- A What’s new card on the title menu, once, the first time you open a new version.

## Fixes

- Rail Carts no longer get stuck at the foot of a step.
- Boss cinematics: you can’t be hurt for the whole scene, and the camera never ends up inside a block.
- A single-player world restarted while paused stays paused.
- Skipping the opening scene in its first moments no longer causes an error.
- A world open in another tab can’t be deleted from this one; opening it here saves it there first and closes that tab’s screen, so an item held on the cursor goes back into the bag.
- Invite links: an invite from a friend who isn’t online says so; a returning player keeps their saved spot and is told where the friend is.
- A name the game can’t use is refused with the reason, as you type.
- Phones: the death screen held sideways fits the cause, the tip and Respawn; the title menu fits a 360 by 780 screen.
- Coordinates no longer run together in the pixel font.
