Spells and Ether
The Crystal’s light, hardened in the deepest stone, wakes one element at a time in a Dawnstone Focus. Hold it and right click to cast; C turns it to the next ready spell. On a touch screen the Cast button takes the Draw button’s place: tap to cast at the middle of the screen, or hold, slide to aim and lift.
| Spell | Ether | Cooldown | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rimeshard (Water) | 4 | 0.8 s | A shard of ice, straight and fast: 5 to a creature, and Chill |
| Cinderbolt (Fire) | 6 | 1.2 s | A ball of fire that bursts where it lands: 6 and Burning, half to those within 2 blocks |
| Stonewake (Earth) | 8 | 4 s | A ridge of stone along the ground: 6 and Rooted to every creature on it |
| Squall (Wind) | 10 | 8 s | A whirlwind walking 10 blocks: it catches each target, then flings it |
Ether pays for every cast: 20 of it, a slim bar of ten segments over the hotbar. It comes back by itself, 1.5 a second, from a second after your last cast. A cast you can’t afford flashes the bar and spends nothing.
Learn a spell with the Focus in hand and a piece of the rarest ore in the stone, the one below the moonstone: each piece wakes one spell. A Keeper beaten teaches its element’s spell to everyone at the fight, and a character that beat Keepers before this update knows their spells when it returns. The Journal’s new Spells tab lists all four. Every number is in the magic guide.
The spell book
You know up to four spells, and three are ready at a time. B opens the spell book (on a phone, the Spells button in the bag, or hold the Cast button still): pick a spell, then a ready slot. For 5 seconds after you take damage the book won’t change.
Each spell has three levels, raised at the Lectern. Level II costs 1 less Ether and cools down 10% faster; level III adds 1 damage and makes its effect last 25% longer, against creatures only.
Spell trails
A trail recolours the core and the trail of all your spells; the rim keeps the element’s colour. Two are earned: Chainbreaker, gold links, for beating all four Keepers, and Scribe’s Ink, a black core with gold letters, for finding all sixteen Torn Pages. Choose one in Looks, under Body › Spell trail.
The Vael Lens Lectern
A chalkstone pedestal banded in gold, its violet lens floating above it. Right click it, pick a weapon, a tool, a piece of armour or a spell, and pay the price shown: it always works, and nothing is lost.
| Track | For | I · II · III |
|---|---|---|
| Keen | Swords, daggers, axes, bows, crossbows | +1 · +2 · +3 damage to creatures (at most +1 to players) |
| Deft | Pickaxes, shovels, hoes, fishing rods | 10% · 20% · 30% faster |
| Bulwark | Every piece of armour | 3% · 6% · 9% less damage a piece, at most 25% for the set (5% against players) |
Level I costs 4 Gold Ingots and 2 Dawnstone; level II, 3 Moonstone and 2 Dawnstone. An enhanced item shows gold pips and its level in its name, Keen II Iron Sword, and keeps it when dropped, stored or given away. The recipe and the level III price are in the crafting guide.
Callings
A new character chooses its calling on its first steps into a world; a character from before this update is asked once. A calling gives a first kit and a free outfit, nothing more: every calling can learn spells, draw a bow and use any blade.
| Calling | First kit | Outfit |
|---|---|---|
| Warden | Stone Sword, Wooden Helmet, Wooden Chestplate, 4 Bread | Warden Tabard |
| Wayfarer | Recurve Bow, 16 Arrows, 4 Bread | Wayfarer Cloak |
| Arcanist | A Dawnstone Focus, Rimeshard or Cinderbolt, 4 Bread | Arcanist Robe |
| Shade | Stone Dagger, 3 Cookies, 4 Bread | Shade Wrap |
The kit comes once per character. Change your calling any time in the Journal’s Calling tab: the new outfit joins your Looks, the old one stays, and there is no second kit. More in How to play.
Invite in Friends, Leave world
The pause menu’s Friends starts with Invite to this world (since v0.7.1; no account needed): a link to share and a QR code, and up to eight friends join your world from their browsers. Leave world goes back to the title menu, with the time of the last save under it. How it works is in playing together.
Settings has a new HUD tab: coordinates, the compass, damage numbers, danger hints and right-click tips. Every key cap on screen shows the key set in Settings › Controls. Back to Game returns to the game in one press. On the title menu, Your Realm reads “Single Player, or with up to 8 friends”, and Looks “Customize your character”.
Earlier versions: all updates.
