The Titans update

The shards wake. Bring a Titan to its knees.

Also new
  • Waking a Shardborn takes 4 of its element’s ore and a block of the rarest ore in the stone, used on the cradle stone.
  • Its fuel is the clock: 15 minutes of light on the boss bar, then it sinks back to sleep.
  • Every win: its ore and up to 2 Moonstone. The first over each: its Shard and a Shardmantle. All four: the Shardfall Cape and the title Titanbreaker.
  • One Shardborn awake per world. A cradle rests 30 minutes after its fight.
  • Each creature has its own colours, gear and marks, the same for everyone who sees it.
  • Creatures breathe, look about, blink and flinch, and their faces turn when they come for you.
  • Bonewalkers wear the bronze, verdigris or black iron of the old temple guards.
  • A Bonewalker draws before it looses. When its arrowhead sparks, take cover.
  • Vael Robots burn with an ember lens; tame one with tungsten and it wakes to Rivet’s cyan.
  • Gloops carry their element’s crystal inside, and each one is its own size.
  • Dust Hollows, Crawlers, pigs and cows have hitboxes that match their new shapes.
  • A character kept for a name idle 60 days gets its land, trust and team back when its owner returns.
  • A private world’s download always has its newest save.

The Shardborn

When the binders chained the elements in the Keepers, the shards of the Riven Crystal were left. Each one pulled its element’s land into a body, and the binders could only sing them to sleep in stone cradles. They are the Shardborn: Titans 48 blocks tall, one for each element. Every one you bring down sets its Shard free.

Shard Cradles

A Shard Cradle is a sunken arena 72 blocks across, ringed by four obelisks, in about one region in six of the Elemental World, far from the temples. Stand at the cradle stone holding 4 of an element’s ore, with a block of the rarest ore in the stone in your bag, and use it: the ore chooses which Shardborn wakes. Only a player who has beaten that element’s Keeper can wake it.

The call goes out to everyone in the Elemental World, with the cradle’s place, and for a minute the ground kindles. Then it rises. The fuel is the clock: 15 minutes of light burn down on its boss bar, and when they run out it sinks back to sleep. One Shardborn is awake in a world at a time; after a fight the world rests 10 minutes and that cradle 30.

The fight

It walks a step every 3 seconds, 7 blocks a stride, and every footfall is marked on the ground 1.5 seconds before it lands: under the foot is crushing, near it shakes you. Stand in front of it and it slams both fists down. Blows to its body count for a tenth.

Its knee crystals (200 each) bring it down. Break one and it kneels at the end of its step for 12 seconds (16 on Easy), still as stone: climb its arm to the heart, 16 blocks up, where blades strike for triple and shots for half again. Its knees grow back when it stands.

II65-30%Its shoulder crystals cast its element every 8 seconds; break them (200) to silence them
IIIunder 30%The crown casts too, every 6 seconds, and seals the heart until it breaks (300)

It has 3,000 health against one player on Medium (1,800 on Easy, 3,900 on Hard), and 70% more for each player who joins the fight, up to eight.

Rewards

Everyone within 60 blocks of the cradle when its heart bursts takes a share: 2-4 of its ore, the rarest ore and up to 2 Moonstone. The first win over each Shardborn gives its Shard and a Shardmantle for your shoulders; all four give the Shardfall Cape and the title Titanbreaker. They are earned, never sold.

The creatures

  • Hollows, a Frostbitten, a Bonewalker and a Crawler at dusk, each one different.
Hollows, Bonewalkers and CrawlersEach in its own colours, gear and marks. Their faces turn when they come for you.
  • Pigs, a cow and chickens in a meadow by day, each one its own.
Pigs, cows and chickensRebuilt for their bodies, with hitboxes that match.
  • Vael Robots with ember lenses and Gloops at dusk, each Gloop its own size.
Vael Robots and GloopsAn ember lens, or Rivet’s cyan once tamed. Each Gloop its own size.

Every everyday creature is rebuilt: Hollows, Dust Hollows, Frostbitten, Bonewalkers, Crawlers, Vael Robots, Gloops, pigs, cows and chickens. No two are quite alike: each has its own colours, gear and marks, the same for everyone who sees it. They breathe, look about, blink and flinch.

Bonewalkers wear the bronze, verdigris or black iron of the old temple guards. Vael Robots burn with an ember lens, and a tamed one wakes to Rivet’s cyan. Gloops carry their element’s crystal inside. Dust Hollows, Crawlers, pigs and cows have hitboxes that match their new shapes.
