Emberhold

Eight players, four teams of two: Ice, Fire, Stone and Wind. Each team keeps a Homefire on its own isle of the Riven Isles, hanging over the cloud sea. While yours burns, every death sends you back beside it after four seconds. Once an enemy breaks it, your next death is your last. The last team standing wins; when the eight minutes run out, the teams still standing are ranked by points.

Empty seats fill with bots 30 seconds after the first player sits down, so a round always starts. Bots carry a hollow rune before their names, give fewer Embers and never count for the ranks.

Everything about rounds: the Emberhold guide.

One kit for all

Everyone fights with the same five slots: Rimeshard, Cinderbolt, Stonewake and Squall, and a stack of Skystone, the only block in a round. Your bag stays at home. Wall in your Homefire, bridge the gaps in the broken bridges, or build out to the four small isles where the Wards wait.

The edge

Squall near an edge throws a player into the void, and the kill is yours. Its cooldown in a round is 12 seconds, and its whirlwind is slow enough to see coming. Stand at an enemy Homefire and hold your swing to break it: its ring and banners turn black, its lanterns go out, and its team is one death from the end.

Three fights between players are fairer everywhere, in rounds and in the Riven Lands: a rooted player takes at most three shards from any one hit, no player can root you again for three seconds after a root, and a Cinderbolt’s burst reaches at most two others and burns none of them.

The Hearthgate

Two doors lead in. On the title menu, press Emberhold: its line says how many wait in the round that is filling. In the Riven Lands, find the Hearthgate near the spawn, a gold-banded stone arch over a threshold of the Crystal’s light, and walk under it. /emberhold in chat says where it stands. A friend in a round shows as Emberhold in Friends, with Join.

Embers and ranks

Every finished round brings Embers: more for a better place, for kills, final kills and Homefires, less for bots. They go to your character in the Riven Lands with a small reward for your bag, and they are spent on looks only Emberhold has: the title Emberwarden, the Hearthfire spell trail and the Emberhold Cape. Never a loot box, never money.

Your record keeps every round: wins, losses, kills, final kills, deaths, Homefires broken and your streaks. Signed in, you are ranked among friends and everyone, by wins or by best streak, through seasons of 28 days.

Worlds of your own

Create a world offers seven to begin from: Riven Wilds (the Riven Lands’ own land), SMP, Sky Islands, One Block, Flat, One Land (one biome everywhere) and Archipelago (a sea of islands). Make one in your browser, or on our server for your friends.

An SMP world lives on our server for up to thirty players and is kept for good. Its maker is its keeper: they can ban and unban guests, and set its time and weather. /world says which world you are in and who is there.

Every kind of world: How to play.

Sky Islands and One Block

Sky Islands are grassy isles adrift over an open sky, their hanging roots heavy with ore; glide between them, and mind the drop into the void. One Block begins with a single block in the void: break it and it returns as something new, phase by phase.

World switches

Each world of your own sets its rules and now its switches: Gravity (Low, Normal, High), Jump (Normal, High, Mighty), Glide for everyone, wings or not, and PvP on or off. /rules lists them.

The satchel and the bag

The hotbar is now the satchel: six sockets and your off hand, the round socket beside them. Keys 1 to 6 pick a socket; the key left of 1, or a tap on the round socket, swaps hands. The bag is remade in rows of eight, with your gear worn on your figure and the satchel beneath. Saves carry over item for item.
