The Cinderwrack update

The Tempest brings its storm. Walk where the Vael city burned.

  • The Siphonworks’ pump hall deep under the scrap: the great siphon in the middle, a few lamps still lit, acid in a channel across the floor.
The SiphonworksDeep under the scrap, the halls that drew down the Crystal’s light.
  • Through Gloomseer Lenses: the violet shapes of creatures standing in the dark beyond a stone wall.

  • A track of rails bending round a corner and climbing a slope onto a stone step.
Rails that turn and climbLay them round a corner and they turn. Up a step and they climb.
  • Enhanced blades shimmering by their level: blue for I, red for II, gold for III.
Gear that glowsLevel I glows blue, II red, III gold. In the bag and in your hand.
Also new
  • Press 7 for the emote wheel: hold, aim and let go, or tap and click. On a phone, the wheel button. Moving ends one.
  • Fewer buttons on phones: hold a slot to drop, push the stick to run, one wheel for the rest.
  • Three emotes are earned: beat all four Keepers, the Crowned Wyrm, or all four Shardborn.
  • Settings > HUD: Others’ emotes.
  • The Tempest’s lightning is marked on the ground before it strikes.
  • One Wright in five drops a Thrumcore. It burns in a Forge as long as three coal.
  • Gloomseer Lenses go where a helmet would. They never show players, bosses, or creatures in the light.
  • /locate cinderwrack and /locate siphonworks, in single player.
  • Each fish you land has a length. The Journal’s Fish page keeps your first, your count and your biggest.
  • Use a fish on water to let it go. It gives nothing back.
  • Name up to eight friends on a Sealed Chest, or hand it over. It moves only when empty.
  • Rail Carts ride the slopes and round the turns, and stop at the end of the line.
  • Ladders: climb hand over hand, each rung heard.
  • Gift a friend any look or emote, from Looks or their profile.
  • Aim at a door, a chest, a chair or a sign: a small mark says what a click or a tap does.
  • Keys and Journal pages wait until you meet what they are for.
  • The Hearthgate opens on every mode: Emberhold, Hearthwar, Riftfall, Vesselfall and more.
  • Waking a spell or choosing a game: pick a card, then Wake or Play.
  • Every kind of world on New world says what it is. With no world yet, New world comes first.

The Tempest’s storm

When the Tempest rises, the sky over its arena darkens into a thunderstorm: rain falls, the cloud flashes, and the storm passes only when the fight is over. Its lightning is marked first, a ring of light on the ground. Step out of the ring before the bolt falls.

How to beat it: the Tempest.

The emote wheel

Press 7 (on a phone, the wheel button) for the wheel. Hold it, aim and let go, or tap it, aim and click. Salute, Bow, Wave, Point, Kneel, Sit, Cheer and a War cry are every character’s from the start, and everyone near you sees them. Moving ends one.

Three more are earned: the Keeper’s Oath for beating all four Keepers, the Wyrmslayer’s Roar for the Crowned Wyrm, and Stonebreaker for all four Shardborn.

The Cinderwrack

Here and there in the Vael Wastes the scrap gives way to the Cinderwrack, where the Vael city burned on the White Night: black basalt, drifts of ash and glazes of fused obsidian, broken by magma vents that still burn underfoot. The city’s towers stand in it, blackened. Brass Wardens walk it far more often than the open scrap.

Where to find it: the Vael Wastes.

The Siphonworks

Deep under the scrap lie the halls the Vael cut to draw the Crystal’s light down to their city. An adit leads down to a pump hall round the great siphon, with plated conduits off it. Most lamps are dead, acid runs where the light once flowed, and Wrights rise in the dark. A chest waits at the siphon’s foot.

One Wright in five drops a Thrumcore, the heart of a pair of Gloomseer Lenses, worn in place of a helmet: within 14 blocks they show the creatures that walk in the dark through the stone between you.

More: the Vael Wastes.

The Fish Compendium

Every fish you land has a length now, and the Journal’s Fish page keeps each kind: your first catch, how many, and the biggest. The ones you haven’t caught show only where they live. Use a fish on water to let it go: it swims away, and gives nothing back.

The Sealed Chest

A chest bound in iron with a gold seal. Only you and up to eight friends you name may open it, and only you may break it. Name your friends in its window, or hand the chest to another player. It moves only when empty.

Rails, gear and ladders

Lay rails round a corner and they turn; lay one against a rail a block higher and it climbs. Rail Carts ride the slopes and round the turns. Enhanced gear glows by its level, I blue, II red, III gold, in the bag and in your hand. Ladders are climbed hand over hand, each rung heard.
